Hello earthlings. This was kind of a stream-of-consciousness type project if that makes sense. I just started fooling around with colors, boxing, cell shading, but finally opted to have a background image. It’s a picture of some friends from a few weeks ago, in black and white. The text bubbles/images are comprised of random things that were talked about that day. Thank you for viewing!

This is a visual representation of this song, based on converting music into color using this key. The first time I did a project like this, I did it by hand with a sharpie, a ruler, some acrylic paint and Chopin’s “Mazurka B-dur;” it looked like this. The second time I used this technique, I made this based off of Pachelbel’s “Canon in D.” This is the first time I’ve used Excel for this technique. It’s much faster and neater, but I kind of miss the texture and imperfections of painting by hand. Also, painting is a great break from staring at a computer screen, even if it takes longer.

I have since passed this spreadsheet/canvas onto a friend for him to add onto it. The idea, I guess, is to work collaboratively and see the progression as people continue to add onto it. Then, when it’s done (a relative term), I’m gonna put it all together as an animated gif.
If you want the next step, “P01 S02,” passed onto you to add to, just email me and I will send it your way!
Thanks!
Sometimes the most satisfying way to rebel against an annoying convention is to use it for something other than its intended purpose. Thinking about a burdening task in a new light is also a great stress reliever.
